One day, while perusing the local Jo-Ann's, I happened upon this perfect glen plaid fabric, reminiscent of Pee-Wee Herman's iconic gray suit. Full disclosure - I LOVE Pee-Wee Herman. Pee-Wee's Big Adventure is my favorite movie of all time and his face is forever tattooed on the back of my leg, which led to me appearing on stage with him on Lopez Tonight back in 2011. No regrets!
I bought a few yards of the fabric immediately, despite having no particular plan in place for what to do with it once I brought it home. By this time, I had a sizable collection of clothing patterns thanks to super low discounted prices and was happy to make use of them.
Sifting through my collection, I combined the bodice and skirt from one pattern with the sleeves from another, forming what I wanted the dress to be - a dress sharing similarities to his throwback 1950s suit, but with a more feminine Peter Pan collar, cuffed sleeves, and a pleated skirt. A red bow was a must, but with a ribbon pussy bow instead of a man's bow tie.
This dress is still in progress and will require some tweaks before completion. Stay tuned!
