When I had purchased tickets to Cinespia's formal holiday screening of The Shining, playing in Downtown LA's beautiful Los Angeles theater, my original plan was to make a 30's-style art deco gown. I bought about six or seven yards of a beautiful iridescent copper fabric and actually put a dress together - however, I only remembered halfway through cutting the pattern pieces that I'm kind of tall and although I added length to the bottom half, I forgot to add extra length at the torso to make up for my height, causing the gown to be too high-waisted for me. Total dress failure!
In a last-ditch effort to wear something uniquely mine to the event, I ordered a cheapo gown from Amazon.com and once it arrived, I quickly hustled over to the fabric store to find something suitable for an art deco-style capelet. Knowing the pattern I was planning to use didn't include instructions for a lining, I needed something that would keep me warm enough in the midst of a Los Angeles winter night all by itself.
Faux fur it was!
A few hours later, and with mounds of faux fur all over my apartment forming into its own mythical beast, my fuzzy capelet was born and ready to make its debut for the event the following evening!
