Once upon a time, I was a gangly teenager, much like I still am today. Somehow, despite being born of two very average sized humans for their individual genders, I became a rather tall stick figure with cartoon-like curves. It made no sense. No clothes ever fit right. Life was terrible.
Rather than simply caving into wearing things that would drape off of me, like loose potato sacks, I learned to sew by hand so that I could wear clothes that fit decently. This habit carried on into my twenties, through traveling the country and living in many different states, until some mythical ginger person finally showed me how to thread and operate a sewing machine. The moment was glorious, as if God were shining down from the heavens and bestowing a gift upon me himself. Or herself. Itself? Whatever, that's not the point. I suddenly had the ability to tailor my clothing in mere minutes, with nice even lines that didn't look horrific. It. Was. Magical. I went into a frenzy, tailoring everything I owned. I shopped for inexpensive clothes at Goodwill so that I could have more things to experiment with, to practice on. I downloaded a wardrobe app, took pictures of everything I owned, and curated my closet. And then I noticed what was missing. Like, why didn't I have a 60s style cape? How did I not already have a Pee-Wee Herman inspired dress? Clearly, there were very specific holes to be filled that were not likely to be found in regular stores. It was time to start making new clothes for myself. And so I did. Duh. That's why this site even exists. Although it's been less than a year since I started creating new articles of clothing, my freshly acquired skills have surpassed my expectations, surprising literally everyone around me but especially myself. Friends have started approaching me to have their own clothing tailored or custom-made just for them - some of them even offer me money! - and I'm now on my way to turning my beloved hobby into (hopefully) full time work. Join me in my journey to becoming the most awesome DIY seamstress this apartment has ever seen, will ya?
